Hi, I'm Lewis ...aka Dr Chicken, a nickname given to me by customers at work which kind of stuck and grew into where we are now!

I started keeping poultry in 2005 and since then have worked with birds on children's farms, spent years selling hybrids and housing at Cotswold Chickens, maintained endangered species in zoos and represented brands at events such as Omlet (makers of the eglu), PoultryTalk.com, the British Hen Welfare Trust and various others.
I regularly travel the UK giving talks on keeping chickens as pets and their husbandry at events such as BBC Gardeners' World Live and The Pet Show at the NEC in Birmingham, The National Poultry Show and even at Highgrove Estate, home of HRH Price Charles following a recommendation from The Poultry Club of Great Britain.

I graduated with a BSc in Animal Science, then studied for another five years to become a Veterinary Surgeon. I now work as a small animal vet in Staffordshire, with a special interest in poultry and birds of prey, as a keen falconer myself.

All the information in my courses is a culmination of my varied experience, backed up by a solid theoretical education to give up-to-date content; I believe I am the only vet offering these courses to backyard keepers in the UK.

I started running chicken keeping courses from home while I was studying for my A Levels and when I started my undergraduate degree, the poultry courses moved to Aberystwyth, Wales.

I helped rear and prepare Free Range Turkeys for Christmas for a few years before friends asked me to show them the way I dispatch birds and teach them a little bit about avian anatomy, which is how the Dispatch courses came about.

If you would like to schedule a course in your area and have a suitable venue in mind, please get in touch; this can include schools, Cub Scouts or Guides, corporate events and the WI.

I run these courses as a hobby to fund my poultry keeping and can be flexible to suit your requirements.

There is scope to run these courses for student veterinary nursing colleges and Veterinary CPD for first opinion practices wishing to gain more experience of husbandry and handling poultry with discussion of commonly seen cases in practice.
